Ugliest Dog: Rate & Vote ("Ugliest Dog", "the app", "we") is a lighthearted community app for celebrating lovably ugly dogs. We built it to collect as little about you as possible. This page explains, in plain language, exactly what data the app touches and why.

The short version: no account, no name, no email. You are an anonymous ID. The only things stored in the cloud are the dog photos and dog names users choose to share, plus anonymous vote counts. No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no selling of anything.

1. Anonymous identity — no account needed

When you open the app, Firebase Authentication assigns your device a random anonymous user ID (UID). That's it. We never ask for and never collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other account information. The UID exists only so the app can remember which photos you uploaded and prevent duplicate votes.

2. What gets uploaded (and is public)

If you choose to submit a dog, two things are stored in our backend:

These are stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage) in a project hosted in the EU multi-region (eur3). Uploaded photos and dog names are public to all users of the app — that's the whole point of the contest — so please only upload what you're happy for the world to admire.

3. Votes

When you tap Cutie, Goofy, Real ugly, or Cursed, your vote is stored as an anonymous aggregated count on the photo. Votes are not tied to any personal information — only to the anonymous UID, to keep the leaderboard fair (one vote per photo per person).

4. What stays on your device

The app keeps a small amount of local data on your phone (AsyncStorage): your preferences, which photos you've already seen or voted on, and any photos you've chosen to hide. This never leaves your device.

5. Photo metadata (EXIF) — checked, never uploaded

To keep the contest honest (real dogs only, no AI-generated fakes), the app inspects a photo's metadata on your device before upload as one signal for filtering out AI or fake images. This metadata check happens entirely on-device; the metadata itself is not uploaded or stored by us.

6. No ads, no analytics, no tracking

7. Reports, moderation, and hiding photos

Ugliest Dog is celebratory, never mocking. To keep it that way:

8. Deleting your content

You own your photos and can have them removed. Until in-app deletion ships, email us at hello@mrbooz.com and we'll delete your dog's photo and name from our backend.

9. Service providers

We use Google Firebase (Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC) for authentication, database, and photo storage, with data hosted in the EU (eur3 multi-region). Google processes this data on our behalf under its Firebase data-processing terms.

10. Children

Ugliest Dog is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has uploaded content, contact us and we'll remove it.

11. Your rights (GDPR & friends)

Because we hold almost nothing about you, most requests are simple. You can ask us to access or delete the content tied to your anonymous ID (your uploaded photos and dog names) at any time via hello@mrbooz.com. If you're in the EU/EEA, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the effective date above. Material changes will be flagged in the app.
